The fluid level sensors usually send information about the liquid levels in the engine while the gauges relay information on any pressure changes in the engine.
Types of fluid level sensors.
1.Mechanical sensors
This type of a sensor simply involves the opening or closing of a mechanical switch through direct contact with the switch or using a magnetically operated reed. When using a mechanically actuated float, switching happens when the float moves against the micro switch. With a magnetically actuated float sensor, switching happens when the permanent magnet sealed inside the float rises or falls to the indicated levels. It is important to consider the type of oil in use when using a mechanical sensor as high viscosity oils tend to smudge a lot thereby affecting the final reading on the sensor.
2. Ultra-sonic sensors
Ultrasonic sensors are good for non-contact sensing of highly viscous liquid levels. They emit high-frequency acoustic waves, which are reflected back and detected by the emitter to give an accurate reading. Fluid level sensors assist the driver in determining the oil levels in the tank, brake fluid levels and know when to fill them. They also indicate when the levels are low and probably casing too much friction, which can result in permanent damage. They also help to indicate when there is a possible leakage or any kind of malfunction for timely diagnosis and repair.

A digital gauge is an instrument that helps to measure pressure intensity in a car. Digital pressure gauges are important for the setup and tuning of a fluid power machine like a car. It helps to ensure there are no leaks or pressure changes, which can affect the overall operating system of a machine.
How a digital gauges works
A digital gauge has a thin metal layer which has an electric circuit attached to its back. This thin metal is known as a diaphragm. The diaphragm flexes under pressure when the resistance on the circuit changes in proportion to applied pressure.
Features of a digital gauge.
1. Peak hold
An important function of a digital pressure gauge is the ability to monitor and display pressure peaks. The gauge continues to actively read pressure levels while displaying only the peak levels. This is a setting that can be adjusted to one’s needs.
2. Tare
This function allows for the cancellation of existing pressure. Any changes in pressure are measured from the moment the function is enabled.
3.Bar graph
This function in digital gauges allows an operator to view the pressure readings as a percentage of scale as opposed to just a hard measurement. This facilitates for easier interpretation.
4. Auto off
This setting allows for easy switching off after being in use for a set time. It helps in battery conservation.
5. Maximum/Minimum
This feature allows for easier navigation of readings, current readings, the most recent and highest (maximum) or the most recent lowest (minimum) readings.
Where to Use a Digital Gauge
A digital gauge can be applied to measure pressure at various points in a car. A digital pressure gauge can be used to measure the air pressure in car tires. It measures tire pressure by converting into numerical readings the force exerted by the air inside the tire. These readings are then displayed on an LCD screen. Digital pressure gauges are used in most professional settings as they give highly accurate readings.
A digital pressure gauge is also used to monitor the filters and valves in a car. They allow for monitoring the flow of oil and indicating whenever there is a decrease in the flow, due to clogging or wearing out. To get accurate readings, two gauges need to be installed, one on the upstream side and another on the downstream side.
Digital pressure gauges can also be used in pump control. They monitor the suction and discharge pressure on pumps. When the pumps operate at the right differential pressure, the chances of damage and quick wear and tear are greatly reduced.
